The Kebbi State governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has task secondary school principals to address the growing trend of drug abuse amongst students and youths in North Western states.
Bagudu made the call at the Mandatory Continuing Professional Training Workshop for North West geopolitical zone organised by All Nigeria Confederation of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Kebbi State in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday.
The governor expressed worry over the menace of drug abuse amongst students and youths calling on principals to raise up to the challenge with a view of redressing the situation.
He said the time was ripe to inculcate good values and hard work amongst students and youths who are leaders of tomorrow.
‘’On issue of drug abuse the government has taken concrete steps in reducing the incidence of drug abuse in our society by organising series of worships and sensitisation programs.”
The governor was represented by his deputy, Samaila Yombe Dabai.
The North West chairman of ANCOPSS, Alhaji Lawali Gusau and Kebbi State ANCOPSS chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Gwandu commended Kebbi State government for improving standard of education in the state.
They requested the Kebbi State government to provide a vehicle, ensure promotion of deserving principals to the rank of permanent secretary or tutor general, and to ensure capacity building to attend national and international conferences and provision of land to ANCOPSS in Kebbi.
