Lagos state has.announced the launch of 15 high-capacity, locally fabricated boats, marking a significant step towards revolutionizing transportation in Lagos State.
The announcement was made recently by the Governor, His Excellency Babangida Sanwolu on his X account.
In his words, “this initiative not only enhances our waterways but also showcases our commitment to sustainable, efficient, and reliable transport options for all Lagosians”.
Thee new ferries, fabricated in partnership with Caverton Marine, are designed to carry 40 passengers each, doubling the capacity of our existing vessels.
Acccorfing to the governor, the project marks the beginning of a new era in water transportation, offering a faster, cleaner, and more comfortable commute.
The deployment of these ferries underscores our dedication to reducing traffic congestion and improving connectivity between communities. By saving hours lost in traffic, we are boosting economic prosperity and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
Sequel to this development, the governor revealed plans to further expand water routes by providing additional 25 high capacity ferries.
He said that the initiative aligns perfectly with the State’s THEMES+ agenda, promoting pollution-free mobility and integrating an intermodal transportation system.
The new ferries operate on the Cowry Card payment system, ensuring seamless and efficient service for all users.
The water ways are equally equipped with new patrol boats, a Search and Rescue Unit, as well as a floating clinic, to ensure safety.
