Gombe moves to establish five tertiary institutions

Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State on Tuesday in Gombe inaugurated committees for the establishment of five tertiary institutions in the state.
The proposed institutions are: Gombe State University of Science and Technology; College of Agriculture; College of Accounting and Management Studies; Institute of Journalism; and Institute of Sports.Dankwambo, who was represented by his deputy, Charles Iliya, said the aim of establishing more schools was to boost tertiary education.He said it was also to enable youths in the state to contribute positively towards the development of the state and the country at large.According to him, the action is part of the implementation of the blue print by the high powered committee set up at the inception of his administration for the development of the state`s education sector.He said part of the recommendations had been implemented in the area of Basic Education,


construction, remodelling and expansion of secondary schools in the state, among others.Dankwambo said: “We have also improved the funding of Gombe State University and constructed the clinical arm of the college of medical sciences.“We aim to train our teaming youths to become good citizens of Gombe State and the nation at large.”Dankwambo said that all the committees were expected to submit their reports within two weeks of their inauguration.A member of one of the committees, Prof. Yahaya Abdullahi of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, who spoke on behalf of other members, thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve.Abdullahi assured Dankwambo that they would deliver on their mandate.
