The Nigerian Governor's forum NGF has emphasized the need to switch to digital tax collection and revenue administration.
Director-General of the forum, Asishana Okauru was speaking while addressing journalists at the NGF technology and Tax program in Abuja, Monday.
Asishana said the aim of the program is to bring together service providers, researchers and tax authorities to share lessons towards driving tax digitalization in Nigeria.
According to the Director-General, the tax administration has become harder in a period of unprecedented growth in digital transactions, adding that the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed that all revenue administration needs to move to a digital future.
Speaking through a representative, chairman of Federal Inland Revenue device (FIRS) Muhammad Nami stressed the need to embrace technology in tax administration and other forms of ICT innovation in enhancing effective and efficient tax collection and optimal Revenue generation.
Also speaking, the World Bank Country Director who was represented by the senior public sector specialist, world Bank, Rahul Awasthi said Tax digitalization is an escape, as countries who adopted the tax digitalized mode of payment will manage their economic decline.
