The spread of novel Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria continues to record significant increases as the latest statistics provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control reveal Nigeria now has 166,019 confirmed cases.
On the 23rd of May 2021, 40 new confirmed cases were recorded in Nigeria.
To date, 166,016 cases have been confirmed, 156,476 cases have been discharged and 2,067 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory
A total of 2 million tests have been carried out as of 23rd May 2021 compared to 1.98 million tests a day earlier.

According to the NCDC, the 40new cases were reported from 7 states- Lagos (29), Abia (3), Ogun (3), Kano (2), Kaduna (1), Plateau (1), and Abuja (1).
Meanwhile, the latest numbers bring Lagos state total confirmed cases to 58,423, followed by Abuja (19,853), Kaduna (9,069), Plateau (9,060), Rivers (7,226), Oyo (6,856), Edo (4,907), Ogun (4,680), Kano (3,971), Ondo (3,283), Kwara (3,123), Delta (2,627), Osun (2,578), Enugu (2,453), Nasarawa (2,383), Katsina (2,097), Gombe (2,035), Ebonyi (2,030), Anambra (1,909), Akwa Ibom (1,893), and Abia (1,690).
Imo State has recorded 1,657 cases, Bauchi (1,549), Borno (1,337), Benue (1,188), Adamawa (1,130), Taraba (992), Niger (935), Bayelsa (888), Ekiti (873), Sokoto (775), Jigawa (528), Kebbi (450), Yobe (436), Cross River (394), Zamfara (244), while Kogi state has recorded 5 cases only.
