The Bauchi State Government has strengthened and intensified surveillance to curb the spread of Type 2 Polio Virus.
The Commissioner for Health, Zuwaira Hassan, yesterday disclosed this at a press briefing on the recent discovery of the polio virus strain in the state.
She said the government had embarked on an active surveillance system to fight the virus in all the 20 local government areas of the state.
“The type polio virus was last discovered years back and that wild polio virus was last discovered 5 years back in the state,” she said.
According to her, the virus was first discovered in Jigawa, Yobe ,Katsina states, some parts of the north and Niger Republic.
