No fewer than 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons taking shelter in Bauchi State willing to go back to their respective communities are to benefit from a N200,000 grant from the Targeted Grant Transfer.
The grant is under the Youth Employment and Social Support Operations, a World Bank-assisted intervention.
The Head of TGT component in Bauchi State, Mallam Kabiru Kobi, disclosed this during the inauguration of the Targeted Grant Transfer held at the banquet hall of Government House, Bauchi.
Kobi said the primary objective of the TGT programme was to encourage the 13,836 IDPs enumerated to go back to their respective communities or any other safe and secured location to resettle.
He said, “The N200,000 to be benefited by IDPs that are willing to go back to their indigenous communities will given in four batches.
“The first batch of N30,000 is the one we are flagging off today and it will cut across all enumerated IDPs mined from the state social register.
“Thereafter, those IDPs willing to go back to their communities will be entitled to additional N20,000 as relocation allowance, N50,000 resettlement allowance and the final N100,0000 as stabilisation allowance, which brings it to the sum total of N200, 000 per beneficiary”.
In his remarks, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, described the intervention as timely.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mohammed Nadada, the governor expressed the hope that the beneficiaries would use the grant to improve their economic status.
He said,“For those of you that want to go back to your respective communities, I urge you to make good use of what you are getting from the TGT intervention. For those of you that want to remain in Bauchi State, you are welcome and you will be given all the privileges that the indigenous people are enjoying too.”
The Bauchi State Chairman of the IDPs, Mallam Buba Shehu, expressed gratitude to the World Bank, the Federal Government and the Bauchi State Government for their efforts towards rehabilitating the IDPs in the state.
He also appealed to the beneficiaries of the grant to use it for the purpose for which it was given.
