Zamfara State Governor, Alhaji Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar has described curbing the current rate of insecurity in some parts of the state as his topmost priority.
Yari stated this when he received the Deputy Inspector General of Police ( DIG) Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Mr Joshaq Habila who paid him a courtesy visit in his private residence in Talata Mafara town.
The governor said that ensuring the security of lives and property of the people of Zamfara State is cardinal to the state government under his leadership and would therefore, never politicise it.
Yari added that his administration since assumption in 2011 has been providing logistics support to the Police and other security agencies in the state to complement them in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
“I assure you of my administration’s commitment of continuous provision of adequate logistics and other affiliate supports for the police and sister agencies in their zeal to make Zamfara free from all acts of banditry and other criminal activities”, he said.
The governor said he would not relent in ensuring that the people of the state and their property are adequately protected.
The Gov commended the Nigeria Police on the success recorded last Thursday when it repelled ambush attacks from Armed Bandits at Mahanga Forest in Birnin Magaji local government area where 104 bandits were killed and over 50 bandits hideouts destroyed.
Yari also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his prompt action in providing security to the people of Zamfara state, by regularly taking necessary actions to curb the ugly menace which has been a major threat to the security of the people in the state.
The Governor who doubles as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum described the performance of the police men in the fight with the bandits that have been terrorising the people of the state in one of their major hideouts as worthy of commendation.
Earlier, DIG Habila said his team were in the state to bring an end to the security challenges currently facing Zamfara state.
Habila commended the governor for his unrelenting efforts in providing adequate logistics, intelligence, guidance and the general welfare of the security operatives in the fight against the criminals in the state.
The DIG was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Mobile Police Force, Lawal Jimeta, Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Command, Usman Belel among other police officers.
It would be recalled that the Inspector General of Police on 9th November, 2018, deployed Police Joint Intervention Team of 1000 Police personnel comprising the Seven Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF) headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Police Anti-Bomb (EOD) Squad, and conventional Policemen to Zamfara State to dislodge, arrest and prosecute Armed Bandits, Vicious Kidnap for Ransom and Cattle Rustling Gangs.
The DIG, Department of Operation and the Police Joint Team were mandated to also coordinate the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State and personnel of the Command to sustain and restore lasting peace throughout Zamfara State.
